Clinical Review Confirms: Total Contact Casting Improves Outcomes for Diabetic Foot Ulcers
A recent meta-analysis published in Frontiers in Endocrinology (read full study) offers strong clinical validation for the use of Total Contact Casting (TCC) in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). The review examined multiple randomized controlled trials and found that TCC significantly outperforms removable offloading devices in terms of both healing rate and time to closure.
According to the study, patients treated with TCC experienced:
- ✔️ Higher healing rates compared to those using removable walkers or therapeutic shoes
- ✔️ Shorter median healing time
- ✔️ Fewer complications leading to amputation
The researchers concluded that TCC should remain the gold standard for DFU offloading, especially in patients with neuropathy and poor adherence to removable devices. This aligns with prior clinical evidence supporting TCC's role in reducing plantar pressure, protecting ulcer sites, and enforcing consistent offloading.
At M-Med, we've designed our TCC kits with clinical efficiency in mind—featuring extra padding, adhesive-backed foam, tibia and malleoli protection, and a streamlined application process to save time and improve patient comfort. Our goal is to help providers bring this evidence-based therapy into daily practice without logistical obstacles.
